SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES: Were you aware that over 60 percent of what you place in your skin, the largest organ on your body, gets absorbed into your blood stream? And unlike your liver and kidneys which act as your body’s filter, the skin is all on its own. 95 percent of the compounds in most commercial fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum and natural gas, called petrochemicals. Normally, 80 percent of odor formulas are comprised of those chemicals and sometimes, 100 percent of a formulation can be synthetic.
Skin absorbs those man-made chemicals in a couple of ways: by direct application, by contact with fragranced items, and by exposure to air containing fragrances and that may collect in your body organs. They could cause allergic reactions, migraines, asthma attacks, nausea, eczema, and a whole slew of other sensitivities. You will find recommendations for pregnant women to refrain from wearing artificial scents.
Some of the most talked about components of concern in perfumes are:
• Parabens– a commonly used synthetic preservatives in many scents, they could interfere with the production and release of hormones. Our products doesn’t contain parabens in any of our fragrances.
• Phthalates– this popular fragrance preservative is generally highly concentrated in the majority of commercial perfumes. A known carcinogen, health effects may include damage to liver/kidneys, birth defects, decreased sperm counts and premature breast development in boys and girls. Our products doesn’t contain phthalates, period.
• Artificial Musks– studies have demonstrated that several kinds of artificial musks not only may disrupt hormones, but traces are found in: fat tissue, breast milk, body fat, umbilical cord blood, both marine and freshwater samples, air, wastewater and sludge. Our products doesn’t contain any synthetics or synthetic musk in their own perfumes.
So why synthetics? Many synthetic perfumes do contain natural, essential oils but typically it’s a small percentage. While naturals are extremely costly and infrequent vs. synthetics, there are particular notes which you just can not extract from nature.
NATURALS: Consumers are becoming more educated and leery of substances in our personal care products and are looking for safer alternatives. Naturals generally are much healthier and offer the scents for green living.
Natural fragrances are crucial oils and isolates derived from botanical ingredients that are harvested from the ground such as: flowers, fruits, sap, seeds or skin of the plant, in addition to the bark, leaves, roots, resins or wood of certain trees rather than from a laboratory (synthetic). The oils in our products are derived from natural raw materials by either water or steam purification, a technique that’s existed for centuries.
What we love about our natural perfumes is that they’re made in layers; changing gradually with the chemistry of your skin. Working together with your chemistry, they also gently develop into your own singular scent, so you smell like you and not like everyone else. Each individual’s skin differs so the longevity and the soul of the notes odor and last differently. Natural perfumes aren’t overpowering and will stay in a few feet of the body. Fundamentally, when you leave the room, so will your odor.
Without harsh chemicals, natural aromas are also more eco friendly than our synthetic counterparts whose substances may be an environmental issue. You’re receiving nature’s gifts in its purest form. Individuals with chemical sensitivities and asthma will not be as bothered like they’re with synthetics and the colour of the fragrance is offered by the colour of nature.
